Boss, solid, copasetic, Daddy-o. These were some of the new, hip words associated with the “in” crowd of the sixties. Another hip, slick, cool word in the auto field was Hemi. If this word was affixed to your new “bad” muscle car, then all attention was on you and your ride. The word hemi conjured up awe and envy, sure, but it mostly drew fear as well. Chrysler dropped the monster 426 cubic inch hemi power plant into many street hot rods, but the most remembered are the Hemi ‘Cuda, Super Bee, and the biggest one of all, the Daytona Hemi Charger.

Mercury Cougar Eliminator – Muscle With Style
In the late sixties to the early seventies, all the major manufacturers were on the muscle car band wagon. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, and even American Motors had their flag ship star available for the asphalt jungle. The sister to the Ford Motor Company, Mercury had a strong hold in the NASCAR, with the Cyclone, and even had some serious drag racing power with the Comet and Cougar drag specials. But when it came to a reputation on the street, the folks at Mercury didn’t have much to say. That all changed in 1969 with the introduction of the Cougar Eliminator.
