Through the many years of the automobile history in America, many unique and special autos have been developed. Some of these were made for all out speed, others to just look good. The one thing that these customs have in common is the short production runs in which they were made. Some of them were only a few thousand at the most, while others were in the hundreds. How about an auto that had a production run of only one? Enter the 1952 Ariel Custom Wood Car.

The Ariel was conceived by an unknown west coast boat builder who was not only handy with wood working tools, but also had a love affair with autos. Being a boat builder from the get-go, the quality of his work was undoubtedly top notch. Couple that with the time era, as hot rods were becoming all the rage, something special had to become of it. Not too much information is available about this one of a kind auto, but it appears that the body was hand carved from a solid mass of wood. The body design came from a popular magazine for that time, Modern Mechanics Magazine.

Power is supplied from an Ariel square four motorcycle engine and four speed transmission. The engine also lent its serial number to the auto, and it is currently titled with it. Hence the name Ariel, one can assume. Suspension pieces were borrowed from a Citroen, a unique British model in itself. Taillights are from a Cadillac, headlights from the shelf of the local parts store, and the fuel cell from a custom rod shop. Everything else from the unknown boat builder. Now imagine this car for sale, that would bring in a pretty penny.
