Your car’s spark plug failing means a sluggish engine. A low momentum, a sluggish performance can be real irritating. However you can fix the problem yourself without taking it to a mechanic. Quick Cash Auto provides you some tips on how to test Spark Plug.

Before testing spark plug, make sure you wear rubber gloves and don’t get too close to any metal portion of your vehicle when the engine is running. A spark plug test is done while the engine is running, so to save yourself from shock, wear rubber products.

At first disconnect all the spark plug wires from the engine one by one. When you disconnect the engine should be running. While you disconnect one wire, the engine speed should drop or it may start getting rough. This mean the spark plug is perfectly fine. If there is no change while disconnecting then your spark plug is bad.

You can inspect the spark plug ignition by holding a disconnected wire close to a metal part. You will see sparks or hear noise. This implies your spark plug is fine and that the voltage is running through the wires. If not then your spark plug is not working properly.

When you test your engine, crank it, you will see sparks on each and every spark plug. Even around the cylinders. If nothing happens then spark plug wire is dead.

Check all the spark plug connections and connect them back nicely. These include battery cable, ignition and coil wires too. Sometimes the spark plug may not work properly due to loose in the connections. Shake the wires easily to check. Connect all of them to check whether there is any wire gone loose.

Another reason of spark plug not working properly is dirty, grease deposits at the end of the wires or rust. Sometimes cleaning the wires work. If all of these don’t work then the spark plug of your car needs to be changed.
