Have you ever wished your car to sweep you off the ground into the clouds? Do you wish to suddenly fy high while you are tired of the rugged roads? A new wave is in the air and will soon take the world by storm. Terrafugia Inc plans to launch its ‘Flying car” by 2011. It has been named “‘the Transition’.

The US Federal Air Authority has allowed this flying car a weight exemption and would be made for all and sundry.  This Terrafugia Transition has quired the US car manufacturing license and has successfully passed the acid test. So it is definitely a “roadable aircraft”.

This mindblowing discovery has been the result of a vigorous brainstorming by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduates since the last four years.  The Transition is said to have specially designed foldable wings and was completed in its full form in March 2009. It has a cage, airbags and a special crumple zone. The news spread from the grapevine after six months of careful road testing thus having its first flight!

For Richard Gersh, the Vice President at Terrafugia, it is like a dream come true.  He says, “I’m not sure it’s up there with the Wright brothers, but it’s awfully closeI’m not sure it’s up there with the Wright brothers, but it’s awfully close”. Anna Dietrich, Terrafugia’s chief operating officer exclaimed, “here’s actually programs that you can do in about two weeks. You can take a couple weeks off of work and come home a pilot, so it’s a very accessible, very exciting way of getting into aviation and giving yourself that additional freedom and flexibility”. So you can try this new car and be a part of the thrill.

There is still a long way to go as Transition is yet to receive a certification from FAA as well as Highway Traffic Safety Administartion testing before the car is ready for the flight!
