What is your least favorite item to spend money on? Doctor visits? Broken water heaters? Your child’s braces? For many people it is something much more recurrent in our banking statements every month. Fuel for our vehicles. While it is a pain in the collective side of everyone who owns a vehicle, the use of gasoline and diesel are part of our everyday lives. While many advances have been made in the area of fuel alternatives in vehicles such as solar power and electric cars, availability is limited in many areas of the country. In addition, prices for these types of vehicles are still too high when compared to regular car prices.
Thankfully, many car manufacturers are continually striving to make more fuel efficient cars. The Toyota Prius is one of the leaders in fuel efficient cars on the market today. The Prius gets a staggering 51 miles per gallon on the highway with an impressive 48 mpg in the city. This compact car retails for about $21,000, a real bargain considering how much owners will save on fuel during the years that they own it. The Honda Insight has some of the same features and similar body style as the Prius but does not measure up quite as well in total fuel economy. The Insight still gets a respectable 40 mpg in the city and 43 during highway driving and is slightly less expensive at about $20,000. Another Honda with tremendous fuel economy for the money is the 2011 Honda Civic. This sporty car often attracts younger consumers but can be a perfect fit for anyone wanting a stylish, fuel conscious car. The Civic gets the same gas mileage as the Honda Insight at 40 mpg in the city and 43 mpg highway. MSRP for the Civic is slightly higher, however, at $23,950.
For consumers who want great fuel economy and all the style and luxury that a car can offer the 2011 Audi A3 may be the perfect fit. While the higher price tag of $30,000 may scare some consumers off and the 30 mpg during city driving is not outstanding when compared to the other cars detailed above, the features and 43mpg highway are great selling points. There are many other cars for sale today that are fuel efficient, these are just some of the leaders in the field of gas sipping, money saving compact cars. One thing is for sure, what these cars lack in horsepower, they make up for with green power!
