Honda has become on the ball with its new cutting edge technology and it's becoming exciting to read about. The 'Honda home fueling station' is one of the newest
ideas for Honda that is set to go into experimental production in its' near future. The main reason for its implementation is to provide the availability of
hydrogen for the FCX Clarity automobile that is going into production this year. This is a well thought out plan because not only is it focusing on an alternative fuel vehicle, but it's also foreseeing the need to provide an adequate access to fuel. It will run off of the home's existing natural gas supply to produce and
store hydrogen, which will, in turn, provide heat, hot water and electricity for the home as well as the car! The side effects of its operation are just as dramatic.
Emissions would be reduced as much as 30% and energy costs by up to 50%, when compared to the homeowners' conventional grid-supplied electricity and gasoline driven vehicle.
A fuel cell stack has to be located in the owner's yard in order for this to work. This is the only issue that must be dealt with. However, substantial progress is
being made in trying to find a solution to this problem. The present storage capacity of the energy station is 132 litres maximum which can be filled at a rate of two
cubic meters per hour. Ben Knight, vice president of Honda R&D Americas said "The Home Energy Station represents one promising solution to this (need for refueling
infrastructure) issue while offering the added benefit of heating and powering the home more efficiently." Honda has not yet released details on when it will be marketed.
