2009 Honda Fit - Many consumers are finding the 2009 Honda Fit a perfect fit. As a four-door hatchback, it offers versatile seating options with fold-down passenger seats to enhance the cargo capacity. Starting MSRP for the Fit is $14,550, with an EPA estimated 28 mpg city and 35 highway.

2009 Smart Fortwo - This year the smart choice may be the 2009 Smart Fortwo. With a starting MSRP of only $11,900, this becomes an affordable car for many buyers. The Fortwo includes an Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) with front and side airbags and steel bumpers. The estimated mpg for the Fortwo is 33 city and 41 highway.

2009 Chevrolet Aveo - The redesigned Aveo has finally arrived and it carries a low starting MSRP of only $12,120. The 2009 model has estimated mpg of 27 city and 34 highway. It also includes the Chevy 100,000 mile/5 year transferable warranty. There are two models available; both offer On-Star and XM-Radio.

2009 Toyota Yaris - The Yaris is Toyota's affordable alternative. The 2009 model has a suggested MSRP starting at $12,205. Standard features include: ABS, front airbags and air-conditioning. Yaris also has a high estimated mpg of 29 city and 36 highway.

2009 Scion XD - For those with a need for speed, the 2009 Scion is a great option. It includes a 1.8 Liter engine producing 128-horsepower. The Scion is still extremely fuel efficient with an estimated 27 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. The Scion offers no-haggle pricing with a substantial amount of standard features.

Regardless of somebody's budget, there are many affordable, efficient automobiles available in 2009. Like they say, big things come in small packages.
