The Fusion is Ford's mid-sized, four door sedan. The Fusion began production in 2005, for the 2006 model year. It's an equal medium between the Ford Focus and the Ford Taurus. The Fusion was designed as a replacement for the mid-sized Ford Contour, which was produced from 1995 to 2000. After the Contour ended production, consumers demanded another mid-size Ford sedan. The Focus, while sporty and sleek, it was just too small for many families. While the Taurus is larger, it is less fuel efficient. The Fusion gives passengers plenty of leg and head room, and offers around 30 miles per gallon.
The Ford Fusion is also available in the Lincoln and Mercury product lines. The Fusion is billed as the Mercury Milan, and the Lincoln MKZ. However, these versions are a bit pricier than the Ford model. The Fusion originally came in three trim packages, the S, SE, and SEL, with two engine options and three transmission options, for the 2006-2009 model years. Consumers are becoming more environmentally and financially conscious, and have demanded a 'greener' option for the Fusion. Ford listened and has made many changes for the 2010 Fusion.
The 2010 Fusion is available with four different engine options:
1) 2.5L, 4 cylinder/ 175 horsepower Duratec engine
2) 3.0L, V-6/ 240 horsepower Duratec engine
3) 3.5L, V-6/ 263 horsepower engine for the Fusion Sport
4) 2.5L, 4 cylinder/ 155 horsepower engine for the new Fusion hybrid.
Prices for the 2010 Ford Fusion range from around $18,000 for a base model Fusion S, to about $28,000 for a fully-loaded Fusion Sport. Hybrid prices for the 2010 model year have not been released. The new 2010 model will begin production in June 2009, and will be on dealer lots shortly thereafter.
