In 2002 when the Saturn Vue first made its way onto the market, it was the first car by Saturn that would break through in the small SUV category. At the time of its appearance, there had been many established SUV based car models in the market, so Saturn knew it was up for some competition. The Saturn Vue came equipped with unique drive train options, which created a comfortable spacious cabin, and it was purchased at a comparatively low price.
The 2002 model was moderately successful as far as sales goes, but it never got much positive news from the media. From that point until now there have been hybrid models.
The Vue's body is based on the Opel Antara from GM's European subsidiary company. The current baseline model is a four cylinder, with 169hp, while the XR and Red Line models both boast a 257 horse power with 3.6 liter V6's. All Vues have automatic transmissions and both hybrid models can shut off the gas engine at a stop. The newest 2009 hybrid known as the "2 Mode" can accelerate at slow speeds solely on just electric power, and plug in charging is not required for either hybrid model. The towing capacity for all Vue models is 3500 lbs, but with the V6 and Red Line models the number isn't as firm as with the hybrid and four cylinder models.
The safety features available with all 2009 models include Anti-Lock-Brakes, front and side airbags, and an anti-skid system. Optional upgrades include a navigation system, a wireless cell phone link, remote engine start, seat heating, and a rear cargo management system which is able to be adjusted for a variety of cargo carrying needs.
The Saturn Vue is the most economical small SUV in its class and is rated in the middle of the pack as far as performance and safety are concerned which make it an overall good buy.
