How To Replace A Door Panel

Replacing Door Panels

Do you have to replace your door panel? Are you looking to fix something within your door? Well, this isn't the worst thing that you may have to do for your car to keep it functioning properly. In fact, replacing a door panel is quite easy.

Whether you are replacing your door panel to get to the window track or to replace something, there are only a few things you will need to know. First, you will need a Phillips screw driver and most likely a 1/4" socket set. Once you have these items, you are ready to begin replacing your door panel.

The first thing you will want to do is look your door over completely. You will want to look for metal fasteners on your door before you try to take any plastic clips off. Once you have found everything, you will want to unscrew the lock knob. Now, if you have a switch panel, you will want to remove it and the screw beneath it. If your mirror is controlled by a knob on the door, make sure there are no screws that may go through the door panel.

Once all of that is done, find the clip to release the window crank. Push the panel inward and insert the hook between the handle and the plastic washer on the door. Make sure the clip is visible so you don't lose it. Put in a long round tool and slide it along the door panel until you hear or feel it hit a plastic clip. Pull the tool out slowly and put the tool and clip back in between the opening. Use this to pry the panel off the door.

You should have the door panel off now and you can remove the membrane so that you can get to the items that you want to look at and fix. If you have damaged any membrane, you should try to replace it before replacing the door panel. When you have completed what you set out to do, replace the door panel back onto the door. Push the door panel onto the door until you hear it click. Then, repeat the steps you previously did, only backwards. Once you have put in the last screw, you have completed the task you set out to do and have replaced a door panel.
