How To Wax Your Car

Waxing your car can be quite easy. If you want to buff your car to remove any light scratches before waxing, you may want to take it to a professional, to avoid any slip ups. A good waxing on your car will help protect it from the elements, as well as filling in any light scratches, and helping to reduce corrosion from larger scratches.

What you will need:

-A fine, soft, medium to small sized sponge to apply wax
-Car wax that is non-abrasive (Carnauba wax works well)
-Several soft rags to buff the car.

Start out by giving the car a good wash, and then completely dry it. Be sure to get the lower edges of the car. Any dirt or grime left on the car may cause scratching while you wax it. The first thing that you need to know about waxing a car is to avoid the trim. The black or other colored trim will often get stained white, so keep away from touching these surfaces. Also avoid the glass, because the wax can easily scratch it.

Take your sponge and apply the wax to the sponge. Gently rub the sponge on the car with a rotary motion. Keep your sponge filled with the wax. Then, working systematically, work around the car, focusing on one surface at a time. Once the entire car has been covered in wax, let it sit. This allows for a white film to form on the wax. Take the clean, soft cloth and start buffing the wax in a rotational motion. Continually change which part of the rag you are using, because a clean rag will do a much better job at buffing. Make sure that you have buffed all the surfaces of the car.

Clean the trim and glass with a glass cleaner to ensure that any wax on these surfaces has been removed. Be careful not to scratch the surface if there is much wax on the glass. A good wax job should last about three months or so. Currently there is no permanent car wax. To keep your car in the best shape, keep it waxed every three months. This will help your car last longer.
