Selling My Car Was A Nightmare

Selling your car on your own can be one of the biggest mistakes you will ever make. If I had known that it was such a difficult process, I wouldn't have attempted to sell my own vehicle. Let me tell you my story, because selling my car was a nightmare!

I had an old 1988 Cadillac Deville that was in good running condition but it was in need of some major cosmetic repairs. I did all the homework, such as making sure that I had a clear title in hand. I listed ads on local bulletin boards and on free classifieds websites. I mentioned to various individuals, that I was selling my car for a reasonable price. I created a bill of sale for the prospective buyer. I did everything I could think of to create a smooth selling experience. Yet, at every turn there seemed to be another hurdle, another nightmare, and another kink in the works.

Even though I had individuals contacting me about the car, they all wanted me to sell it for a lower price. I made the mistake of letting some complete stranger come to my home to look at the car. He asked to take the car for a test drive, but before entering the car, he asked if I had full coverage insurance in a way that made me uncomfortable and scared of what he might do to the vehicle. I told him that I didn't feel comfortable with him taking the car out. Another potential buyer called me, asking to buy the car for a few hundred dollars for her elderly mother. When I refused, she became angry and hung up the phone. Finally, I gave up and removed all of my online ads, and took down the bulletin board ads the next morning.

So as you can see, selling my car was a nightmare! I eventually sold my car to my husband's co-worker for a lot less than I was originally asking.
